notary

Texas Secretary of State will not issue an apostille if your document contains the words "notario publico"!

A notary public is not a notario or notario público.
A notary public is not authorized to practice law.
A notary public may not give legal advice or prepare legal documents.
A notary public may not charge a fee for preparation of immigration documents or represent someone in immigration matters.

What is the difference between a U.S. notary public and "notario publico"?

In Hispanic countries, Notarios Publicos are legal professionals who provide legal advice and draft legal documents. These are individuals who have received the equivalent of a law license and who are authorized to represent others before the government.

The principal difference between the Mexican Notario Publico, for example, and a Texas Notary Public is that the Mexican Notario Publico is responsible for the legality of the content of the document while the Texas Notary Public only certifies the identity of the signer.

To avoid delay in processing, be sure to look over your documents before submitting them for apostilles to verify that the term "notario publico" is not used anywhere in the document.
